A newborn baby girl was found under the rubble as hundreds of people are still trapped under collapsed buildings in Turkey and Syria.
The child’s mother and family sadly died from the earthquake that devastated the countries.
The baby was reportedly found under a collapsed five-story building in Jindires, Syria, about 10 hours after the country was hit by the earthquake.
She was still attached to her mother Afraa Abu Hadiya by her umbilical cord. The two were separated by rescuers and the tot was rushed to a hospital where a doctor said she had bruises but is in stable condition.
According to reports, the death toll shot past 7,800 as rescue teams continue to search for more people still trapped under collapsed buildings.
Rescuers faced a race against time as it is feared that the death toll could reach 20,000 with the danger of aftershocks and decreasing temperatures.
In Kahramanmaras, Turkey, heartbroken father Mesut Hancer was seen holding the hand of his lifeless daughter, 15.
Aysa Kubre Gunes, 5, was pulled from the rubble of a six-story building where she reportedly lived.
When she was still trapped, her father spoke to her and she bravely said: “I’m fine here. I’m fine, Dad.”
After seven hours, she was finally rescued. A 15-month-old baby was also plucked from the wreckage.
Rishi Sunak ‘pleaded the UK’s steadfast support’ to Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The King reportedly said: “My wife and I have been most shocked and profoundly saddened by the news of the devastating earthquakes. I can only begin to imagine the scale of suffering and loss as a result of these dreadful tragedies.
“I wanted to convey our deepest sympathy to the families of all those who have lost their loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by this appalling natural disaster.”
