A young baby died after two teenage boys stole a vehicle and crashed into a young family.
The shocking incident takes place in Chicago, Illinois, where two teenagers, aged 14 and 17, stole a Hyundai before taking the car on the ride down West Washington Road and crashing into a family’s pickup truck at an intersection.
In the crash, 6-month-old Cristian Uvidia suffered fatal injuries. The baby boy’s mother and two older sisters remain in the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The police have since apprehended the two teenagers who are currently only facing misdemeanor charges. As sources in law enforcement explained, however, their charges could be upgraded later in the investigation of the crash.
Little Cristian’s family has since spoken out and paid the bubbly baby a touching tribute.
“He always had this big smile on his face, he loved to sing and dance. It’s been a rough few days, it’s felt like ten years. This is like truly all of our worst nightmares,” cousin Analisse Rivera said in an interview with WGN9.
Recalling the crash that rocked the foundations of the local community, Rivera added:
“Unfortunately, he was brain dead, and then the next day he passed.
“[The teenagers] stole a car, and they stole our entire lives in that one instant. I don’t know what the price of the car was, but I’m sure it wasn’t equivalent to the life of a child. Heaven has the most beautiful angel right now, and we know we’ll see him again one day.”
It has since also come to light that two other minors were in the car with the 14-year-old and the 17-year-old. It is unclear whether they will face any charges.
