A baby boy died tragically while playing in the driveway after a car reversed and ran him over.
11-month-old Ethan James Rayner was a bubbly young infant from Deception Bay, Australia, who was struck by a reversing vehicle while playing in the driveway at his home.
The shocking incident that rocked the local community took place on Monday morning just weeks before the child was set to celebrate his first birthday.
According to the reports, a male relative of the boy was responsible for Ethan’s severe head injuries after reversing a car on the driveway and failing to see the baby boy.
Unfortunately, Ethan succumbed to his injuries not long after the horrific incident, leaving his parents Jayden and Shandelle Rayner devastated.
“The pain they now have to live with is unimaginable and no parents should have to deal with what these two are dealing with,” Tanechka Mcaleese, the organizer of a fundraiser launched for the grieving family, wrote.
“Anyone that knows Jayden and Shandelle would know they’re the most selfless people and will go above and beyond for anyone that needs. Now it’s our turn.”
Meanwhile, Ethan’s relatives and loved ones shared their tributes to the child and left floral tributes at the family’s home.
The baby boy’s friend, who signed their letter as “your best friend Alexus,” penned: “Dear Ethan, I watch you cry, laugh and smile. I watch you crawl, stand and walk. But you also showed me how to be patient, kind and not to cry over spilt milk even if you did.
“You gave me the biggest heart filled with love and joy. You will always be my little buddy. I will never forget you, the boy with the biggest smile. Lots of love.”
Speaking To Courier Mail, the baby’s grandmother, Carolyn Glenn, admitted that the family was left numb. “You see this stuff happen to other families, I can’t believe it’s happened to us,” she said.
Sharing her grief over the sudden loss of the baby boy was also Donna Lo Giudice who was passing by the house when the incident unfolded.
“The screaming I heard has just broken me. It was a really loud scream, which was hard to explain, then next minute there was silence then the police came a few minutes later,” she said.
Our thoughts remain with Ethan’s loved ones during this challenging time.
