A toddler tragically lost his life during an Easter egg hunt gone wrong.
The heartbreaking incident took place in Adelaide, Australia, where a 1-year-old baby boy wandered off away from his home during an Easter egg hunt with his family.
In chilling footage, the toddler is seen walking down the street with his older brother towards the Little Para River in Paralowie.
After the boys’ parents noticed the two children had strayed away from the house, they sat in their car and launched a desperate search for the boys.
In a panic, the parents accidentally drove into a ditch and crashed their Hyundai IX35.
After the emergency services arrived at the scene, the missing one-year-old was pulled out of the creek he and his brother had approached moments earlier.
Unfortunately, the child died at Women’s and Children’s Hospital despite the paramedics’ best efforts to resuscitate him after pulling him from the water.
“I came out and I saw (an) ambulance working on the child doing resuscitation,” a shaken neighbor, Trista Koleff, recalled in an interview with 7News.
“Seeing the mum cry like that, I had to go inside. It was traumatic for me, I was really shaken up by it.”
Another local, Ryan Nuske, spoke to Adelaide Advertiser and said: “The dad was walking down the street looking panicked. When I got there he [the boy] had just been pulled out of the water.”
Following the Easter tragedy, it has come to light that the creek in which the toddler drowned is typically empty. This time, however, it was running due to three consecutive days’ worth of rain.
Our thoughts remain with the child’s family during this challenging time.
