A newborn baby boy was found alive among grass cuttings in a trash bin with his umbilical cord still attached.
Reports revealed how residents on Nunsthorpe estate in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, heard the baby’s cries from a garden waste bin around 5 pm on Sunday.
At least two ambulances and four police vehicles arrived at the scene. The newborn was rushed to a hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.
A spokesperson for the East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 4:58 pm on June 19, to a private address in Grimsby.
“The caller reported a medical emergency. We sent two crewed ambulances and two patients were taken to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital.”
Humberside Police also said that officers were at a property on Winchester Avenue after receiving reports of concerns for safety that evening.
“Assistance has been provided to those concerned,” they said. “There are no issues or risks to the wider community.”
Authorities managed to find the baby’s young mother who has been taken to hospital for treatment.
Police were seen interviewing residents as they conducted house to house inquiries.
In an interview with Grimsby Live, one shocked resident said: “The mom must have been too young to understand or did not want anyone to know she was pregnant. We only hope she gets the care she needs and her baby.”
People online were also left shocked by the news, with one person writing: “Hopefully mother and baby have been reunited, are doing well and get all the help and support they need.”
Another commented: “The poor little baby, what a start to life! I do hope he will live a rich, long and full life with many happy moments. My prayers to the little darling.”
