Leading Democratic representatives AOC and Ilhan Omar were recently arrested outside the US Supreme Court amid other members of Congress on Tuesday.
According to local media reports, the arrests came at a time when the Democrats were seen conducting a peaceful protest outside the country’s supreme court in regards to their opposition to the Supreme Court’s overruling of the Roe v. Wade decision.
It has been speculated how a total of 16 members of congress were taken away by the Capitol Police while 18 other citizens were also arrested during the incident.
Images of Ocasio Cortez were seen as she was taken away by authorities with her hands behind her back, appearing like she had been handcuffed. And that’s when the news spread like wildfire online where many condemned the actions of the Capitol Police in regard to this matter. In reality, she was not handcuffed as confirmed by the police who mentioned that she was just keeping her hands behind her back while being escorted.
Meanwhile, other members were also observed walking alone with the police by their side, after being detained by the respective officers.
Other people who have been believed to be detained included abortion rights protesters who raised their voices on the decision to strip so many females from their rights to abortion, revealed sources.
While this might have been the first day that Congress members took part in the protests for the overturning of Roe v. Wade, it’s definitely not the first protest of its kind to take center stage.
Remember, members of so many abortion rights groups have been involved in raising their voices against the decision that they deem to be incredibly wrong and unfair for obvious reasons.
