An 18-year-old student from Florida has been arrested on felony charges after he posted a photo of himself online with a handgun, rifle, and tactical vest.
“Hey Siri, directions to the nearest school,” Corey Anderson from Lutz captioned the picture. He was arrested after police received a report about the teen’s post.
It was later discovered that the weapons were airsoft guns. If convicted of making a threat of a school shooting, he could face 15 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine.
“This type of threat is unacceptable,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “This man intentionally instilled fear into our community as a sick joke, but be warned, this is no laughing matter.
“We will do everything within our power to apprehend, and pursue charges on those who make school-based threats.
“Protecting students is our greatest priority. We take school threats very seriously, if you see something suspicious, please contact us immediately.”
This comes a day after a 10-year-old boy was detained on felony charges after he allegedly threatened a mass shooting at his school.
Daniel Isaac Marquez reportedly threatened to attack Patriot Elementary School in Cape Coral.
His alleged text message read: “I scammed my friend.”
A few seconds later, he wrote: “I bought this,” adding a photo of four assault rifles. The 10-year-old then said: “Get ready for water day,” referencing a recent school event in which students partake in water activities.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno walked Marquez and published his mugshot photos.
“He described wads of cash and ‘get ready’ to commit a mass shooting,” Marceno said to W radio. “We don’t wait one second. We investigate every threat as if it’s real.
“Every single threat is real. Every threat is real until you prove not.”
