Anne Heche’s ex-husband has shared a heartbreaking tribute to the actress after it was declared that she was brain dead.
The 53-year-old star was taken off life support after doctors found organ recipients over a week after a horror car crash, in which she suffered lung damage from smoke inhalation and severe anoxic brain injury.
She is survived by her sons Atlas and Homer.
Homer’s father Coleman Laffoon took to Instagram and shared a heartbreaking tribute to the star the day after it was announced that she was brain dead.
In the state of California, being declared brain dead means the patient is considered to have died, reports reveal.
“In the wake of Anne’s passing, I just wanted to say a few things: One, I love her and I miss her, and I’m always going to. Two, Homer is OK,” Laffoon said.
“He’s grieving of course, and it’s rough, it’s really rough, as probably anybody can imagine,” Laffoon continued, adding that Homer is surrounded by loved ones.
“So for all those people checking in, thank you for checking in, showing us your heart, offering prayers and everything. It’s so beautiful.
“Thank you.”
Laffoon also said that he believes his ex-wife is “free from pain and enjoying her experience, whatever is next in her journey.”
He also described Heche as a ‘fearless’ and ‘brave’ woman who loved hard and was never scared to say what she believed in.
“It was all about love, so goodbye, Anne. Love you, thank you for the good times, there were so many. And in the meantime, I got our son, and he will be fine,” he added.
Laffoon also shared a photo of Heche with their son after he was born in 2002.
“It’s important to remember the real love in the best times. Thank you Anne. Peace on your journey,” he wrote in the caption.
