Former kickboxer Andrew Tate has been arrested following a police raid on his luxury home in Romania.
The 36-year-old social media personality and his brother Tristan were taken into custody as prosecutors said that they are suspects in an alleged organized crime ring that exploited at least six women.
Tate and his brother will be questioned by the country’s organized crime and terrorism team as part of the probe.
According to reports, the arrest came after he taunted Greta Thunberg while posing next to a Romanian pizza box.
A spokesperson for the influencer told Daily Mail: “We cannot provide any details at the moment regarding alleged reports that they have been detained; however, Andrew and Tristan Tate have the utmost respect for the Romanian authorities and will always assist and help in any way they can.”
Tate, whose full name is Emory Andrew Tate III, has been called ‘the king of toxic masculinity.’ He first rose to fame when he appeared on the UK reality show Big Brother in 2016 but was removed after a video of him hitting a woman went viral. He then claimed that the video was edited.
Tate previously told his followers that one of the reasons he decided to move to Romania was that police were less likely to purse the allegations against him.
DIICOT, Romania’s police, crime and investigation unit, said in a press release that they had raided five properties after obtaining search warrants.
The statement did not name the suspects but said they included two Romanian citizens and two British citizens.
The brothers are both dual citizens of the UK and the US as they were born to a British mother and an American father.
Police said six victims have so far come forward claiming they were exploited by the group.
