A veteran news anchor was reportedly sacked after refusing to comply with her company’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate.
40-year-old Meggan Gray is a Good Morning Mississippi presenter who revealed she would no longer be allowed to work for WLOX because she refuses to get vaccinated as the TV station’s parent company mandates.
“[I want] to take a moment and let you know that I honestly do not know what the future holds for me as far as my career here at WLOX.
And I just felt that I owed it to you to take a moment while I had an opportunity to say thank you for allowing me into your homes for the past several years,” the tearful news anchor of 18 years said on air last Thursday.
“I’ve had a wonderful 18 year career here, and I’m very grateful for every moment of it. Thank you so much.”
On the following day, the veteran TV presenter was longer to be seen behind the news anchor’s table.
After her sudden disappearance from GMM, Gray spoke out on Facebook to let her followers know why she was terminated by the TV station.
“My father has always taught me: Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching. I’ve always lived by it, but in this particular instance, there are a lot of people watching,” she wrote in her viral post.
“That’s why I feel compelled to relay the truth and explain why you won’t be seeing me anymore on WLOX. I am not vaccinated and therefore, I am no longer eligible for employment with Gray Television or any of their stations.”
She added:
“Before I go any further, let me make it clear – I’m not here to spark debate over the vaccine. I respect an individual’s decision to get vaccinated.
“I believe one of the greatest things about being an American is enjoying certain rights, including those pertaining to personal health decisions. Before GrayTV mandated this vaccination policy, I made an informed and prayerful decision not to get the vaccine.”
The news anchor went on to reveal that she previously survived Covid-19 and that she has other strong reasons for not wanting to take the jab.
While she noted that the decision to get vaccinated or not is a personal choice for each American to make, she warned that “a forced decision to decide between a vaccination and the livelihood of an individual is a dangerous precedent.”
According to the news anchor, she did everything in her power to keep her job, whereas she allegedly offered to get herself tested on a weekly basis instead of getting vaccinated.
Concluding her viral post, Gray admitted that her dismissal from the station hurts. She is convinced, however, that she made the right choice.
“I may have lost my job, but I preserved my integrity,” she said.
