Two sisters who died in the tragic Amtrak train accident have been identified and pictured.
On Monday, an Amtrak train carrying 243 people from Los Angeles to Chicago plowed into a dump truck at an uncontrolled and “dangerous” crossing in Missouri.
As a result of the collision, the train’s two locomotives and several cars filled with passengers derailed completely.
According to the latest reports, four people, including three passengers and a truck driver, were killed in the incident. A further 150 were injured.
While the truck driver has been identified as 54-year-old Bill Barton II, the deceased passengers have been identified as 82-year-old Binh Phan and sisters Kim Holsapple, 56, and Rachelle Cook, 58.
The two sisters from De Soto, Kansas, have since been pictured by their grieving families.
As Holsapple’s partner, Jim Hart, revealed, Kim and Rachelle were on a trip to Chicago with their mother and Kim’s daughter when the accident happened.
“Kim and her sister Rachelle along with Tiffany headed down to the restrooms, where as they were waiting their turn the train derailed, sliding on its side hundreds of feet trapping many and killing the two moms while sparing Tiffany,” Hart explained.
While the two sisters were pronounced dead on the scene, their mother, Pauline, survived the incident but required hospitalization. Kim’s daughter, Tiffany, also survived the ordeal.
Hart has since also launched a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising enough money to pay for the ladies’ funeral expenses.
“On June 27th, these lovely ladies took a train ride to Chicago.
They were excited to be on their first trip together in many years.
This was their four-day getaway. Tragically, the train crashed shortly after departing Kansas City and the two sisters in the center, my Kim (left) and Rachelle, did not survive,” the man wrote as he shared the sisters’ final photo.“In addition to their mom (far left) and niece/daughter (far right), who were hospitalized, they leave behind many loved ones, including children and grandchildren. The money raised will be applied to and help cover final expenses. Thank you all very much!”
Our thoughts remain with all of the victims of the tragic train crash.
