An American citizen who was killed in Ukraine amid Putin’s invasion has been identified and pictured.
On Thursday, 67-year-old Jimmy Hill from Idaho was identified by his family as the deceased American who was reportedly shot dead by Russian snipers in Chernihiv.
It has now come to light that the senior man worked as a lecturer in Kyiv before the invasion began. After Putin’s forces invaded the country, Hill moved to Chernihiv to take care of his girlfriend Ira who suffers from multiple sclerosis.
While waiting in line to buy bread at a local grocery store, Hill was one of ten people who were shot at by Russian troops in an unprovoked attack
During the shooting, the 67-year-old suffered fatal wounds.
Hill’s death comes after a series of social media posts in which the man opened up about his conditions and the situation in embattled Ukraine.
“The past two nights very limited rocket fire during the night. People are able to sleep. We have food. I went to market yesterday and bought food for kitchen staff… the shooting started about 2 hours ago,” Hill wrote in one of his final Facebook posts.
“We would like to try and break out of here. We are hoping for cease fire and green corridor. It would be a pity to come all this way and after years of waiting for a drug to stop her disease progression and to go home empty-handed. We need rituximab or something similar. Without it Ira will not be able to survive much longer.”
In another post, he said: “We could try a break out tomorrow but Ira’s mom doesn’t want to. Each day people are killed trying to escape. But bombs falling here at night. Risk either way… I only have wifi a few hours a day. We have enough food for a few days.”
Jimmy is reportedly survived by his son from his previous relationship. Our thoughts remain with his family and friends.
