While testifying in court during their high-profile defamation trial, Amber Heard has admitted that she hit ex-husband Johnny Depp multiple times while they were married.
But the actress insisted that she did not assault the Pirates of the Caribbean star and that her actions were in self-defense.
On Wednesday, Heard took the stand to resume her testimony and talked about how Depp would allegedly turn violent.
“There are many times I had to use my body to defend myself, and that included slapping wherever I could,” Heard said on the fourth day of her on the stand at ongoing defamation trial against Depp.
“If it meant I could get away, absolutely, or the difference between a sore face and a broken nose… I tried to defend myself when I could, but it was after years of not defending myself.”
When Depp’s attorney cross-questioned Hear about an earlier allegation against her, the actress responded: “I’ve never assaulted Mr Depp or anyone else that I’ve been romantically linked to, ever.”
The two first met while filming ‘The Rum Diary’ more than ten years ago. They tied the knot in 2015 but divorced less than two years later.
Depp has sued his ex-wife for defamation in a $50 million suit, alleging that an article Heard wrote for The Washington Post was harmful for his reputation and career.
In the piece, Heard said she was a survivor of domestic abuse. However, Depp has claimed that it was he who was the victim.
Heard has countersued Depp for $100 million.
Heard had testified that Depp allegedly physically abused her many times. “I will never forget it,” she said. “It changed my life.”
