Kevin Murphy, the former estate manager of Johnny Depp, shared how Amber Heard told him to lie under oath during a case with the Australian government.
He said that the actress pushed him to commit perjury when she was charged with bringing her two dogs to Australia in an illegal manner.
Murphy said that he did not want to lose his job if he did not commit perjury.
“She wanted me to say essentially that it was my fault in one way or another that the paperwork wasn’t completed so that I could take the blame for her,” Murphy said.
It was in July 2015 when the Australian government charged Heard with bringing two Yorkshire terriers to the country – a crime punishable by up to 10 years behind bars and a fine of up to $75,000.
But the actors managed to avoid prison time and flew back on a private plane. Both made a YouTube video publicly apologizing, highlighting the beauties of Australia, and promising not to do the same mistake again.
Heard also pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of falsifying a travel document to bring their dogs to Australia.
The Australian court released the actress on a $1,000 good behavior bond in 2016, a month before she filed for divorce from Depp.
In a written statement to the court during Depp’s libel case, Murphy confessed that Heard told him to claim that she was not aware of the Australian rules about bringing dogs into the country.
“I want your help on this. I wouldn’t want you to have a problem with your job,” Murphy quoted the actress.
Murphy was then accused of lying by making a misleading declaration to the Australian court.
When asked by The Sun’s lawyer Sasha Wass: “Why on Earth did you not go to Mr. Depp to ask him to intervene rather than just lying on oath?”
Murphy said: “because Amber wielded a lot of power and would have made my life miserable.”
