Alec Baldwin has been sued by the family of Halyna Hutchins months after the tragic accident that resulted in her death.
The 63-year-old actor and comedian, who fatally shot the beloved cinematographer with a prop gun on Rust movie set in Santa Fe, New Mexico, last year, is now facing a lawsuit after Hutchins’ lawyer ruled that “reckless behavior” led to the death of the low-budget movie’s director of photography.
As attorney Brian Panish, who is representing Halyna’s husband Matthew Hutchins and their son Andros, revealed in a Tuesday press conference, both Baldwin and other crew members responsible for the safety on set are named in the suit.
The names on the list include Alec Baldwin, who pointed and misfired the prop gun without checking if it was loaded, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who failed to ensure the safety of the prop weapon, and assistant director David Halls, who handed the actor a loaded gun an allegedly confirmed it was ready for use in filming.
Several production companies are also named in the suit.
Panish argued that his law firm uncovered “numerous violations” as they ran a private investigation into the shooting and its circumstances.
The family’s attorney further insisted that Baldwin and “others who are responsible for the safety on set, and whose reckless behavior and cost-cutting led to the senseless, tragic death of Halyna Hutchins” should be held responsible.
“There are many people culpable, but Mr. Baldwin was the person holding the weapon … that but for him shooting, she would not have died,” Panish explained.
Since the horrible on-set accident, the people involved in the shooting have been named in at least three other lawsuits.
