A heartbroken Alec Baldwin said that he would’ve taken his own life if he felt responsible for shooting and killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins but he believes that he won’t face charges.
In an interview with ABC, tearful Baldwin talked about how ‘loved’ the camerawoman was and how he had bonded with her grieving husband after he accidentally shot her.
The actor, who said that he does not feel guilty, maintains that the gun just ‘went off’ and he did not pull the trigger.
“I let go of the hammer, bang. The gun goes off. Everyone is horrified. They’re shocked. It’s loud,” Baldwin said.
The 63-year-old actor also said during the interview that he did not know Hutchins had died until after his police interview.
“Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who it is, but it’s not me,” he expressed. “Honest to God, if I thought I was responsible I might have killed myself. And I don’t say that lightly.”
Baldwin also slammed former President Donald Trump for suggesting that he ‘loaded the gun himself.’
“He said that I did it deliberately. Just when you think things can’t get any more surreal, here’s the president of the United States making a comment on this tragic situation,” he expressed.
After the interview was aired, Baldwin took to Instagram and shared a picture of him cradling one of his children.
“No matter what happens to me. No matter what I suffer. If I win or lose, anything. Anything. No one can take away from me the joy and love you have given me, @hilariabaldwin,” he wrote.
“These are tough times. The world is choked with fumes of hate. But you have given me a reason to live. Our life with our family is all I care about. Nothing else. I owe that to you,” he added.
