Famous child actress Jonshel Alexander who reportedly made a name for herself in the Oscar-nominated drama ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’ has reportedly been shot dead.
According to local media reports, she was gunned down while seated in her car in New Orleans on Saturday. But it is still unclear as to why she was targeted as other reports spoke about how the actual target was someone else.
Alexander appeared in the renowned television drama “Beasts of the Southern Wild” which also received Oscar nominations, being shot and directed by Benh Zeitlin.
The one-time actress was reportedly pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics that rushed to the scene, while her male counterpart had been critically wounded in the tragedy but managed to make it through as he drove himself to the hospital.
Authorities believe that the real target of the shooter was actually her male companion and not her, but things didn’t go as planned and she was gunned down in the incident.
While the actress did not appear in any other film or drama after that, she continued to support herself and her baby daughter by working as a hostess in a restaurant.
Police reports revealed how Alexander and the unarmed man were seated together in the car, which was parked at North Claiborne Avenue at about 9 pm. And that’s when all of a sudden a masked gunman appeared from nowhere and began to fire bullets at them, and then quickly fled the scene.
As investigations into the heartbreaking tragedy continue, the police are currently on the lookout for the suspect of interest, as they released images of a male donning a blue-toned ski mask while standing near a maroon-toned pickup truck.
The grieving family members are awaiting answers from authorities, declaring how heartbroken they are for a senseless act that took their loved one away forever.
