Actress Maxine Klibingaitis has passed away suddenly at the age of 58.
The 58-year-old Australian actress was best known for her roles in the soap opera Neighbours and the TV series Prisoner.
After rising to fame in the 1980s, Maxine continued to add acting credits to her name for the following two decades with appearances in Aussie dramas such as Special Squad, Home, The Flying Doctors, Fields of Fire, Family & Friends, All Together Now, Home & Away, Hampton Court, Marshall Law, Blue Heelers, and more.
One of the actress’s latest appearances came in 2019 when she attended the 40th Reunion of Prisoner in Melbourne.
While Maxine’s cause of death remains unclear, it was revealed that she died “suddenly and unexpectedly.”
“We regrettably announce that actress Maxine Klibingaitis has passed away today. Maxine played the much-loved character of Bobbie Mitchell in Prisoner, Terri Inglis in Neighbours and many other roles in Australian TV,” Partners in Crime, a fan club of the TV show Prisoner, announced in a Facebook statement.
“Maxine was only 58. We send our sincere condolences to her son, Zane and Maxine’s family & friends. RIP Maxine.”
In the comments section, the page also clarified that the sad news is “not a hoax” while explaining that they were informed of the passing through a close friend of the actress.
“A very close friend of Maxine’s called me late today and asked me to post the sad news so that Maxine’s fans would know. Maxine had many fans,” the page shared.
After the tragic news, countless fans expressed their sorrow and paid their tributes to the late entertainer.
“Maxine was absolutely lovely to be around. Such a beautiful soul. You will be forever remembered,” someone wrote.
“Absolutely heartbreaking and shocking. Was only chatting to Maxine a few weeks ago on phone about catching up next time I down in Melbourne. That won’t be happening. My condolences to her family, friends and fans,” another said.
