The human remains that were found in California mountains belong to the missing British actor Julian Sands.
On June 24, hikers exploring the San Gabriel mountains of southern California came across a set of human remains.
It was now confirmed that the remains belong to the legendary actor Julian Sands who was reported missing months ago.
Sands was reported missing by his family on January 13 after he vanished without a trace while trekking through the snowy mountains – the Mount Baldy area in particular.
Following the coroner’s official identification of the remains, the search for the missing actor comes to a tragic end. Sands’ cause of death is yet to be determined.
“The identification process for the body located on Mt. Baldy on June 24, 2023, has been completed and was positively identified as 65-year-old Julian Sands of North Hollywood,” San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department confirmed in a statement.
“The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results.”
Sands is survived by wife Evgenia Citkowitz, a US journalist, and three adult children.
The authorities previously searched extensively for the missing actor as part of eight separate missions. The most recent search was carried out on June 17 and it bore no results despite the participation of some eighty searchers including volunteers and members of the police.
“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer,” Julian’s family said in a statement last week.
“We are deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.”
Our thoughts remain with Julian’s loved ones during this challenging time.
