Aaron Carter, the brother of Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, has been found dead in his bathtub in his California home.
Police reportedly received a call on Saturday morning about a man that had drowned in the tub. Investigators were dispatched to the scene but there is no evidence of foul play.
Child star Carter first gained popularity as a singer before he became an actor, appearing in movies and television shows like 7th Heaven and Lizzie McGuire.
Carter, 34, notably battled addiction for years. According to Entertainment News, he faced legal troubles and entered rehab as he continued his music career.
He rose to fame in the 90s and released four studio albums, starting with his 1997 album when he was just 9 years old.
In 2019, he appeared on The Doctors and revealed that he was diagnosed with ‘multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression,’ CNN reported.
Carter is survived by his son Prince.
Melanie Martin, Prince’s mother, took to TikTok and shared a video only minutes after the heartbreaking announcement. She can be seen driving while weeping in the short clip.
In Carter’s last performance before he died, he can be heard singing about being gone but it wasn’t for long. The video was posted on social media only a day before he died.
On Tuesday last week, he was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence after Martin ‘called the police.’ The 34-year-old was then cleared of any wrongdoing.
Carter has two sisters, Angel and Leslie, who died at the age of 25 from a drug overdose.
Nick and the Backstreet Boys members have yet to comment. The band is scheduled to play in London as part of their European tour.
