The newly crowned Miss England has shocked the world after coming out in the open regarding all the racist abuse she’s faced from critics all over.
25-year-old Rehema Muthamia was recently crowned ‘Miss England’ at a star-studded and glittering ceremony that took place in Coventry in August. However, the beauty queen recently stunned so many of her fans and followers after revealing some startling stories on how she’s been treated after receiving the crown.
“There were so many people who felt that I did not deserve to win. In such a short span of time, I was hurled with verbal abuse and the most horrifyingly racist messages via the Miss England platform,” she began to explain.
“So many people were unhappy with my win because they strongly felt that a black woman certainly did not deserve the title of Miss England,” the bold and beautiful 25 year old revealed.
Be it the press or critics, the backlash doesn’t stop, and now, the newly crowned beauty queen says she’s doing everything she can to change people’s ignorant and racist perceptions about her.
“Yes, I am ethnically a Black but I am also British,” she added. Appearing on a live morning show, the stunner says that she is so proud to be British and wouldn’t change it for the world.
“I was certainly born and raised in this nation and I do feel so proud and confident that I get to stand as well as represent this country and its values. But for whatever reason, people have so much negativity towards me,” the 25-year-old stated.
As a master’s graduate, she now hopes to represent the United Kindom on the world platform of the 70th Miss World pageant which will soon be held in Puerto Rico.
“I have been subject to abuse because people think that my Kenyan heritage means I don’t deserve the right to stand for this country, but that’s not fair,” Rehma explained.
