Never-before-seen bodycam footage shows Gabby Petito telling Utah cops that her boyfriend Brian Laundrie had hit her and cut her face by grabbing her ‘with his nail’.
The video from another officer’s bodycam shows the cop pointing out ‘new’ marks on the 22-year-old’s arm and face after they pulled their white van in Moab on August 12, less than two weeks before Petito was last seen alive.
When asked if her boyfriend had hit her, she responded: “I guess.”
She then tells the officer: “He like grabbed me with his nail, and I guess that’s why it looks, I definitely have a cut right here. I can feel it, when I touch it, it burns.”
Petito, whose remains were found on September 19, then defends her fiancé and said she “hit him first” when he refused to let her in their van.
The newly released video shows Laundrie defending himself and blaming Petito as soon as the officer arrives.
He claims the van-life girl was “really worked up,” but when asked about allegations he had hit her, he said that he “was just trying to push her away.”
Bodycam footage from one of the officers was released while Petito was still missing. In it, parts of the conversation between the couple and the officer were inaudible.
The new bodycam footage from another officer reveals the altercation before Petito’s disappearance and tragic death.
Laundrie, who is named the person of interest in Petito’s homicide, is currently on the run. The search for the 23-year-old entered its 12th day, with the FBI and reality star Dog the Bounty Hunter combing separate areas in Florida.
The focus of the hunt has shifted to the Fort De Soto National Park, where Laundrie stayed with his parents after he returned alone from the trip.
