A musician from Senegal is making some awfully disturbing remarks about the Olympics opening ceremony in Tokyo, where he claims that he was removed because he was a Black.
According to local media outlets, the musician spoke about how the organizers from the Tokyo Olympics 2020 did not wish to include any black faces in the event’s lineup for the opening ceremony. The musician who is termed to be a famous percussionist and goes by the name Latyr Sy says he has lived in Japan for the past 20 years.
In addition, he went on to confirm how he was a part of the list of performers who were all set to make their mark at the National Stadium in Tokyo. However, he was reportedly slashed at the last moment because of his Black race and ethnicity.
Sy went on to confirm how he was booked for the highly anticipated show since last December. Moreover, organizers even sent him a final copy of the rehearsal schedule in the month of April of this year. Sy was also provided with a list of instructions on how to eat like maintaining a dairy-free diet.
He was also requested to keep the final plans for the opening ceremony undercover, making sure that no one finds out. Each day, officials made it a point for him to maintain his body temperature, right before the run-up for the games. This was done to ensure all performing artists were free from symptoms relating to the deadly coronavirus.
But a recent report from the Independent revealed how everything completely changed in the month of May after the artist made a few inquiries relating to the delays regarding his contract. On that note, it was revealed to him by a PR agency that he would no longer be performing.
The same agency also quoted how the organizers for the ceremony did not wish to include any Black face as they began to question why an African American was included in the first place.
