Tiffany Spears, 32, and her 15-month-old son, Nicholas Crowder, were found lifeless inside their home in Portland, Tennessee.
Back in February, the authorities had found Tiffany and her son Nicholas unresponsive inside their house in Portland, north-east of Nashville, but results of their autopsies were just released this Monday.
Nicholas’ body was found strapped in his car seat inside the house and the autopsies show that the toddler has died of hunger and dehydration after his mother lay unresponsive due to a lethal dose of meth and fentanyl.
The medical examiner has ruled both losses as a mishap and said that Tiffany had been dead for several days after a drug overdose.
But it was not clear how long Nicholas has been lifeless before the authorities found his body, although his cause of death was starvation and dehydration.
His 3-year-old sister was found alive inside the home and apparently tried to feed her baby brother with eggs and other food.
The medical examiner had noted that there were pieces of dried eggs found around the toddler’s car seat.
On February 9, local police were called to the house after a probation officer discovered that the house door was locked and as she looked into a window of the house, she saw Tiffany lying on the floor and not moving.
She even saw the little girl just running around the house unharmed and it got her worried, so she quickly called 911.
Police arrived and finally found the body of Tiffany lying on the bathroom floor and drug paraphernalia was also discovered inside the home. While young Nicholas was found strapped in his car seat on the floor of a bedroom.
According to The Tennessean, Tiffany and her son were both already deceased, and the 3-year-old girl was running around the locked house unsupervised. The little girl was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities had initially speculated that Tiffany died of a drug overdose. Her toxicology report showed signs of meth and fentanyl in her system.
Emily Dennison, Davidson County Assistant Medical Examiner, said that Tiffany’s autopsy showed that she had been dead for days in the bathroom, while her children were left unsupervised, and her young infant was in a car seat in the bedroom.
Authorities said there had been other drug-related losses in the past at the rental home. Though it was not clear if those incidents were related to previous tenants.
Both deaths were ruled unintended, the report said.
