A 50-year-old mother tragically died two days after she woke up with a very painful headache.
Nicola Irwin, a mother of two, was taken by her husband Myles, 46, into the Royal Stoke University Hospital for check-up and a CT scan.
That’s when it was discovered that Nicola had an aneurysm, according to Staffordshire Live.
Nicola died at the hospital only two days later, leaving behind husband Myles and children Seth, 11, and Lauren, 28.
Her grieving husband has paid tribute to her, saying: “I’ve lost half of me.”
He continued:” It came as a huge shock. I was expecting Nicki to be out that afternoon. She was just going there for a check up and a CT scan in my eyes.
“But the bleeding was so bad she had an aneurysm. She was brain dead and it was just her heart beating.
“Our family said goodbye on Wednesday (September 29).”
Nicola and Myles tied the knot in June 2009 at the registry office in Newcastle-Under-Lyme.
“The wedding was amazing. I had to wait at the registry office for three-and-a-half hours because there was a fatal crash on the M6,” Myles said.
“She was travelling from Congleton to the registry office and they went on the M6.
“She was stuck there. The registrar said it was too late but I said even if it’s the shortest 10 minute ceremony that’s fine, so they did that, it was short and quick.”
He continued: “We went to the Noah’s Ark pub afterwards and we had the reception there. It’s also where we had the wake for her too.”
