A 40-year-old mother has been charged with murder after three young girls were found dead by their devastated father in their family home.
Lauren Dickason has been accused of killing twins Karla and Maya, 2, and their 6-year-old sister Liane at their home in Tamaru, New Zealand.
The bodies of the three children were found by her husband Graham Dickason after he returned home around 10 pm.
Lauren, a doctor, and Graham, an orthopedic surgeon, and their children had just moved from Pretoria, South Africa to New Zealand to start a new life.
A photo shared on social media on August 3 shows the young girls smiling as they arrived in the country.
A neighbor reportedly heard someone ‘wailing’ outside the house before police arrived 15 minutes later.
Neighbor Jade Whaley told Stuff: “The first noise we heard was somebody sobbing, and then we heard a loud thud like someone just slammed a door. We could see someone through our fence wandering behind the house and wailing.”
Another neighbor, Karen Cowper, described hearing a man’s cries while saying: “Is this really happening?”
“We asked him if he was OK. He did not respond to us and was screaming and crying hysterically,” she added.
Lauren was charged with the murder of their three children and is scheduled to appear in the Timaru District Court.
The girl’s heartbroken mother said the grieving family was struggling to understand the incident.
“It hasn’t actually sunk in yet. We’re in a terrible state of shock. We are devastated,” she expressed.
Canterbury Police District Commander Superintendent John Price said the family had few contacts in the country.
Detective Inspector Scott Anderson said police was “speaking with people from the address and no-one else is being sought at this time.”
