A woman has shared how she was always mistaken for her children’s nanny because she is a different race from her husband and sons.
The mother revealed different situations she had to face because she is white, her husband is Asian, and her sons are black.
The TikTok user said she can’t help but laugh at the unawareness of people when they see her, a white woman, with her Asian husband and black sons.
She revealed that her response to those awkward moments is to laugh because she can’t comprehend being mean to ignorant people.
The mom with the username @thesoulfamily has shared a video where she described the moment a flight attendant thought her son was part of another family simply because of their skin color.
“We recently went on a trip to Hawaii, we got on the plane, and my husband and oldest sit next to each other, and then directly behind them was my youngest and me,” she said in the video.
“There’s no one on the aisle seats on both rows and we think “Maybe there won’t be anyone there” but at the last minute, this really nice black couple gets on the plane and they sit next to us,” she continued.
“So the husband next to my husband and the wife next to me,” she said.
The mother continued saying that when the flight attendant came over to give snacks, the flight attendant provided two snacks to the woman next to her while she gets one.
“And I’m like huh, where is the snack for my kid?” she said. “Yeah, the flight attendant thought the woman next to me was my son’s mom despite me and him watching a movie together on his phone.”
While in a second incident, the white mother went to pick up her son at the summer camp. When she arrived at the summer camp, she talked to the camp counselor looking for her son Antonio.
But then the camp counselor called out to her son screaming: “Antonio! Your nanny is here, bud!”
“I can’t believe people think we’re rich enough to have a nanny,” her son said. “Can we actually get one? A really hot one?”
In the comments, the white mom claims that she doesn’t normally correct people for mistaking her as her sons’ nanny or someone who isn’t related to her two black sons.
She tells that she only responds to those awkward moments when she feels that her kids have a problem with it or if those people will be with her sons for a long time.
