The body believed to belong to missing student Miya Marcano was found in a wooded area in Orlando, Florida.
19-year-old Miya Marcano went missing last Friday after disappearing from Arden Villas apartment complex. After inspecting her apartment, the authorities came across signs of physical struggle including bloodstains on pillows.
Since then, the police had been searching for Marcano, whereas Armando Caballero, a 27-year-old maintenance worker with access to the young lady’s apartment, has been named the prime suspect in her disappearance.
Though the authorities eventually found the man dead from an apparent suicide, the search for Marcano continued into October.
On Saturday, however, search teams came across a body believed to belong to Marcano in woodlands near Tymber Skan, an apartment complex where the suspect used to live. Tymber Skan apartments are located some 17 miles away from where the teenage girl went missing.
“Our hearts are broken. Hundreds of Orange County Sheriff’s Office personnel were committed to this case and working very hard. Everyone wanted this outcome to be different,” Orange County Sheriff John Mina expressed during a press conference.
“As a community, as a father, we are grieving the loss of Miya. We can’t imagine the pain of Miya’s family, loved ones, friends and really our entire community has gone through.”
While the cause of death is yet to be concluded during the autopsy, the sheriff remains determined that all of the missing pieces of the puzzle will come together.
The devastating news comes just a day after hundreds of people gathered outside the student’s home in Arden Villas to hold a touching vigil and pray for the 19-year-old.
Our thoughts are with Miya’s friends and family during these challenging times.
