Outrage and fury surrounded the state of Massachusetts recently when a public school district announced its updated list of summer reading books.
Moreover, local media outlets confirmed how the book list, which was originally intended for students as young as those hailing from Kindergarten and going all the way up to grade 5, would be given the opportunity to read books on ‘white privilege’ and ‘whiteness’.
The school was identified as Belmont Public School which is situated in the Boston Suburb.
In addition, what really shocked citizens is how the list comes with a bizarre title that is called, ‘Race, Culture, and Activism.’ These books will therefore be those selected for students to enjoy during the summertime, raising so many concerns by eagled-eyed experts.
One of the many books which are titled, ‘Not My Idea: A Book about Whiteness’ made the list. The book is about how a devil manages to approach the main character involved through a strange contract that binds you to the concept of whiteness.
Critics also spoke about how the context includes words related to stolen land and stolen riches as well as special favors too. In addition, it goes on to reveal how the concept of whiteness gets into your soul while carefully messing into all of your friends, neighbors, as well as loved ones, alongside all those people of COLOR.
In addition, another shocking finding includes a book that made the list and is titled, ‘Race Cars: A Children’s Book About White Privilege.
’ Moreover, the story goes on to reiterate how two different cars have incredibly different journies and treatments, only because one of them is white, while the other being black.
Critics called this particular book a prime example of one misguiding a child in every possible way imaginable. From racial injustice to inequality too, children so young can easily be brainwashed into thinking this is reality, explained many.
What are your thoughts on the motion put forward by the school? Do you think it is a wise decision to add such books to summer reading lists or not?
