Martin Luther King Jr was a man of great nobility and for that reason, he holds great popularity in the hearts of the American people.
Today, his son is speaking out. And according to him, his father would be very unhappy if he was alive today. In addition, he added how seeing the capitol riots was absolutely shocking. “We must turn to each other and not turn on one another,” he explained.
The nation recently remembered the great leader as they celebrated Martin Luther King Jr. Day. And that’s when other notable names such as Barack Obama came forward to put their two cents.
The former US president made a valid point on how the display of confederate flags wasn’t something that Martin Luther King Jr would appreciate. As that doesn’t show the nation as one. Instead, it puts forward the thoughts of division, completely against the great leader’s ideals and principles.

Without a doubt, Martin Luther King Jr was a man of his word. Certainly, his fight against income inequality and poverty will always be remembered. While celebrating his father’s big day of remembrance, his son shed light on how his dad didn’t immediately become a hero.
Yes, his fans and followers arise in millions today but at that time, he was deeply unpopular. And we’re talking about two-thirds of the American population disapproving him. Still, he worked hard with his struggle. Standing up strongly for what he believed in, his actions went above and beyond just words. They delivered a message for positive change and that is something his son feels lacks in today’s government.
“My father would be very disappointed in the US”
Putting special emphasis on the violent DC riots that rocked the nation’s capital on January 6th, the son used the words ‘greatly disappointed.’ And that had to do with the current state of the nation and where it appears to be heading.
“My father always believed in the citizens of this country. Without a doubt, he would be so disappointed with how so many of us choose to conduct ourselves at this certain moment.” Martin Luther King Jr’s son added that the commander in chief or president is a leader with great responsibility.
With special emphasis on Trump’s behavior, he added how leaders bring people together as one. Here, it was the absolute opposite. The leader was united people to actually intercept the government. And that meant US citizens were turning on their own country.
“If he ever laid eyes on the issues of poverty as well as income inequality today, he would be so disappointed.”
The United States of America- not a divided country
As an American Baptist and activist, King led the Civil Rights Movement till 1968. He always realized that the US is a united country, not a divided one. Also, he would explain to his people that we shouldn’t turn on each other. Instead, we need to learn how to appreciate and value one another. “We must learn to turn to each other.”
On the federal holiday that honored his dad, his son also gave out advice to Joe Biden and his incoming team. In that case, he talked about the new government must focus on good leadership. Next, they should learn how to bring the country together so that they can address all sorts of issues that affect the US.
Be it the pandemic or police brutality, the issues are plenty. But he added faithfully that there is new air coming in. Hence, this government must step up to the plate and rise to the occasion.
