A man was stabbed by his brother 24 years after the sibling went missing.
35-year-old Martin Rabanser was in for a big shock when he woke up one night only to see the face of his brother, 42-year-old Ivo Rabanser, who had disappeared from his life and cut all contact nearly 25 years ago.
According to the reports, Ivo recently returned to his hometown and set up a camp near his brother’s home where he waited for an opportunity to attack.
One night, he proceeded to sneak into his brother’s home in the Italian Alps only to douse his wife in pepper spray and stab him in the chest with a big hunting knife.
After repeatedly stabbing the 35-year-old, Ivo went on to sit with him on his bed and refused to finish him off before the police arrived.
“I felt a huge rage inside towards my brother but I didn’t want to kill him,” Ivo, whom his brother had been looking for in the years following his abrupt disappearance, told the police after attacking his sibling.
“I stayed alone with him while he was in agony on the bed and I could’ve finished him but instead I went to the kitchen, which is where the police found me.”
Following the stabbing, Martin was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. He is currently not in life-threatening danger and is expected to recover from the ordeal.
Though the official motive for the attack remains unknown, Martin’s attorney suggested that Ivo might have returned out of anger over the inheritance his father had left him.
“One theory is that Ivo was angry about the terms of their inheritance from their father, which included the house Martin still lives in, and has been nurturing a grudge ever since,” Atty. Nicola Nettis said.
“But most people handle this through lawyers — they don’t vanish for two decades then show up with a hunting knife.”
