A man confidently admits that he made love with over 1,000 lovers and only one of them is a human being!
Edward Smith, 63, from Yelm, Washington, is a Mechaphile.
Mechanophilia or mechaphilia is a paraphilia involving a sexual attraction to machines such as bicycles, motor vehicles, helicopters, ships, and airplanes.
“Some guys look at boobs and bums on beautiful women,” Smith explained his obsession. “I look at the front and rear on beautiful cars.”
Smith’s first love was Corvette Stingray at the age of 13, now his life has been in overdrive for the last 48 years.
Edward revealed that he had his first sex with a car at the age of 15.
He shared that he has now settled down with the “love of his life”, a white Volkswagen Beetle he affectionately calls “Vanilla”.
He’s had the car since 1982 and claims that it is an open relationship.
“When I hold Vanilla in my arms, there’s a powerful energy that comes from her,” Smith said. “I would say it is extremely satisfying but at times a little melancholy because I know she cannot talk to me.”
“But overall, I know she feels what I feel, and it’s intense,” he added.
“On my own private property where I live is where we get mostly intimate and I’m very careful and respectful not to be seen in public because this is private – like any other kind of love affair between a couple.”
“If anything was to happen to her I would be more than heartbroken,” he said.
Smith said that when he laid eyes on Vanilla, it was love at first sight.
“I first met her, before I got her when I lived here In Yelm, they had the local Jehovah’s witness church driver around in a white Beetle handing out literature,” Smith recalled. “There was something about that white ’74 beetle when they pulled up to hand out their literature, that while they were talking, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.”
Years later, he saw a for sale advertisement for a similar white beetle. When he went to the dealership, he was shocked to find it had the same plate number and was indeed the same car.
He now greets Vanilla every morning and “gets intimate”.
Besides Vanilla, he regularly spends time with his other vehicles, a 1973 Opal GT named Cinnamon and a 1993 Ford Ranger Splash named Ginger.
Before Vanilla, he had a five-year relationship with Victoria, a 1969 VW Beetle he bought from a family of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Despite having a relationship with other cars, Smith said there is no resentment on Vanilla’s part.
“She’s very forgiving,” Smith said.
He also acknowledges that he was aware the cars are objects, not real human beings.
“I don’t like to pretend to the point where I form sociological or mental difficulties, I don’t let it get that heavy,” Smith said. “I realize that “Edward, in your heart and soul you know that these are cars” – but when I hold them in my arms I do feel an energy that comes from each one of them.”
“Lately at my age, the libidinal energies have calmed,” he continued. “Beyond that, there’s a very deep love that I wouldn’t want anything to separate us after 32 years.”
But Edward wasn’t always so open and admits it was a struggle coming to terms with his feelings as a teenager.
He remembers first “cuddling and kissing” a model James Bond Aston Martin as a youngster and then one night he was tempted to step outside and made love to the neighbor’s car, a Volkswagen Beetle.
“I began an interest in the beauty of cars when I was turning just 15 years of age,” Smith said. “It woke something up inside me.”
Despite his intense desire for cars, Smith also admits that he had a sexual experience with a woman, once. He said it was just a one-night stand, and it did not change his interest in cars.
But he confesses that many of the cars he has had sex with have belonged to strangers or car showrooms.
“There have been certain cars that attracted me and I would wait until night time, creep up to them, and just hug and kiss them,” Smith told Daily News.
While he allows the mechanics to fix his cars, he has a strict rule, he is the only one allowed to wash them.
“I prefer to do that myself, It’s like giving her a bath,” he said. “I talk to her, play music, suds her all up.”
There are reportedly over 500 “car lovers” that have been brought together by fanatic conferences.
Smith is telling his story as part of a documentary about mechaphilia titled My Car Is My Lover.
