A 36-year-old man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after police found him in a 15-year-old girl’s closet.
Johnathan Lee Rossmoine reportedly lived in the teen’s closet for more than a month, secretly coming out to sexually abuse her when her parents left for work.
According to reports, authorities were shocked that he managed to remain unnoticed for several weeks.
Rossmoine was sentenced to 15 years behind bars after pleading guilty to having sex with an underage girl he had met through an online chat.
The teen told investigators that the 36-year-old was her boyfriend and that she initially told him that she was 18.
Deputies with the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the home in Spring Hill when the girl’s parents reported that they had found a man hiding in their daughter’s bedroom.
Police rushed to the room and found the man still in the closet.
Rossmoine told police that he had been living off and on in his girlfriend’s bedroom for weeks, saying he would hide in the closet when her parents were home and coming out only when they left, HCSO said.
Hernando County Police Department spokesman Michael Terry said to Mail Online: “Although the specifics of this case were somewhat unusual, the basics are not. All too often children have too much free time, and their online activities are not monitored by their parents.
“Adults who are communicating with children via social media for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity need to understand they will spend many years behind bars when caught.”
Aside from the 15-year sentence, Rossmoine will also receive 10 years of sex offender probation upon his release.
