Malcolm X’s Daughter Was Found Lifeless Days After Two Men Were Exonerated For The Assassination Of The Civil Rights Leader


Malikah Shabazz, Malcolm X’s daughter was found dead inside her home in New York, just days after two men were exonerated for the murder of his father in 1965.

Shabazz, 56, was discovered lifeless inside her house in Brooklyn on Monday afternoon, New York police said.

According to the NYPD, Shabazz’s 23-year-old daughter made the tragic discovery, and the police added that her death does not appear suspicious.

In an interview with NBC New York, police officials said that the 56-year-old was found unconscious and unresponsive just before 4:30 in the afternoon.

Malikah and her twin sister Malaak never met Malcolm X, as they were born seven months after their father was assassinated in 1965.

Back on February 21, 1965, the Black Civil Rights leader was shot 16 times in front of a crowd of 400 people at the Audubon Ballroom in Harlem. His pregnant wife, Dr. Betty Shabazz, and three of their daughters were also shot at the time.

Since the news of Malika’s passing broke out, Bernice King, the daughter of fellow civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr, sent her condolences on Twitter.

“I’m deeply saddened by the death of Malikah Shabazz,” she tweeted. “My heart goes out to her family, the descendants of Dr. Betty Shabazz and Malcolm X.”

“Dr. Shabazz was pregnant with Malikah and her twin sister, Malaak when Brother Malcolm was assassinated,” Bernice King added. “Be at peace, Malikah.”

Malikah’s untimely passing happened days after two men were exonerated in the 1965 assassination of Malcolm X, and at the time of this writing, her cause of death has not yet been established.

Malcolm X rose to fame as the national spokesperson of the Nation of Islam, an African-American Muslim group that embraced Black separatism.

He spent more than ten years with the group before becoming cynical, publicly leaving it in 1964 and moderating some of his previous views on racial separation.

Malcolm X was shot dead at New York City’s Audubon Ballroom while preparing to deliver a speech, all three of the men responsible for his murder were members of the Nation of Islam.
