A man belonging to the Queen’s Guard was filmed knocking a young boy to the ground after the child had blocked his path.
In viral footage taken at the Tower of London, a member of the Royal Guard can be heard shouting: “make way!” after a young boy blocked his way during patrol.
Moments later, the guard could be seen slamming into the child and knocking him to the ground after the boy failed to move out of his way.
After the boy was flattened, the guard moved on and walked past the tourists.
Following the incident, the footage was widely shared on the internet where viewers were left divided. While some supported the guard for “doing his job,” others suggested he should have walked around the child.
“People think these guys are just decorative. They’re real troops with real orders,” someone wrote.
“Yeah it’s actual soldiers on guard duty not something fun for the tourists,” another said.
The third argued: “Why can’t we change the rules so that the guards can just walk around people? I’m sure the answer is ‘tradition’ but who really cares.”
After the clip went viral, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the soldier “continued on his duty” after the child had blocked his path “unexpectedly.”
“We are aware of an incident at the Tower of London earlier today during a routine patrol,” a spokesperson said.
“The Guardsmen on duty warned members of the public that a patrol was approaching but the child unfortunately ran out in front of the soldier unexpectedly.
“The soldier tried to step over the child and continued on his duty. Following the incident, the soldier checked on the child and was reassured that all was well.”
