The last video of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, shows her smiling into the camera while riding a horse in New Mexico desert.
The clip was shared by the mother-of-one on Instagram before she was accidentally shot by Alec Baldwin, 62, when he fired a prop gun on set the set of the upcoming film ‘Rust’ on Thursday.
Remembered by her friends as a ‘loving soul,’ the Ukraine-born lived in Venice Beach, California, with her lawyer husband Matthew, and their son Andros.
One friend wrote on Instagram: “Halyna loved him so much and enjoyed watching him grow into the handsome boy he is today. I know she is looking after him and Matt in this horribly scary time.”
Halyna had trained as a journalist and worked on documentaries in Europe before she moved to Los Angeles where she started a family and established her career.
The mother-of-one was also highly regarded by her friends and other cinematographers.
“She was somebody who was absolutely dedicated to art and integrity,” friend, colleague and director Adam Mortimer told GMB. “I can tell already she was going to be a genius.”
Baldwin was filming a scene for the upcoming film when he fired the prop gun around 1:50 pm, leaving Hutchins dead and writer-director Joel Souza injured.
The cinematographer was rushed to the University of New Mexico Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Souza, 48, was taken to the Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center. He was later released but his condition is not clear.
According to the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office, the prop gun was fired during the middle of a scene that was either being rehearsed or filmed.
