Today, the 38-year-old star is in the midst of a very public divorce. Yes, the vocal powerhouse called it quits, deciding to part her way from her husband and music manager, Brandon Blackstock.
A judge from Los Angeles explained how it was necessary for the kids to be with one parent. Moreover, the court expressed how the couple struggled with the idea of co-parenting.
Due to trust issues, Kelly Clarkson and her husband found it very difficult to embark upon a reliable co-parenting strategy.
Blackstock files more legal documents
Just moments after the court’s verdict came out, Blackstock made the effort to quickly file a number of other legal documents. In particular, these related to him seeking a whopping $436,000 a month for support payments.
Sources explained how the music manager requested Kelly Clarkson for a spousal support sum of $301,000. In addition, he wants $135,000 for child support, as quoted by TMZ.
The divorce keeps getting uglier and messier as Blackstock is also requesting Clarkson for $2 million in terms of legal fees. How’s that for an expensive divorce?
Seven years of marriage comes to an end
The famed American Idol winner filed for her divorce in June of this year, which is exactly 7 years after their marriage. Furthermore, the couple shares two beautiful children together. This includes a 6-year-old daughter, River Rose, and a 4-year-old son, Remington Alexander.
Sources cited how the court document read as follows:
‘The court finds under the present scenario that the interest in giving stability and continuity for the minor kids weighs in favor of the petitioner.’ Hence, that clearly hinted towards giving Kelly Clarkson full primary custody of her kids.
Court documents reveal details
On the other hand, the estranged couple will share the physical as well as legal custody of the kids. However, when the kids are in Los Angeles, primary custody belongs to the singer only.
The document didn’t end there. It revealed how the bond between the singer and her husband went downhill quickly. This was clearly mentioned as the following: ‘there is an increased level of conflict between the two parents.’
‘Both the parties are finding it hard to co-parent due to trust-related issues.’
In the same way, Blackstock will also visit his children frequently. That means plenty of traveling as Kelly lives mostly in Los Angeles. This is also where the star tapes her famous talk show on television too.
Blackstone resides in Montana and intends on staying there. The family owns their own secluded ranch over here.
