White House press secretary Jen Psaki fired back at a TV reporter who questioned why President Joe Biden supports abortion despite his Catholic faith.
“Why does the President support abortion when his own catholic faith teaches it is morally wrong?” Owen Jensen, a male Catholic reporter for EWTN, asked Psaki during a press briefing on Thursday.
“He believes it’s a woman’s right, it’s a woman’s body and it’s her choice,” she said before pointing to another reporter.
But the first reporter interrupted and asked the White House press secretary who Biden believes should “look out for the unborn child.”
Psaki replied: “It’s up to a woman to make those decisions and a woman’s decision to make with her doctor.
“I know you have never faced those choices, nor have you ever been pregnant but for women out there who have faced those choices, this is an incredibly difficult thing the president believes that right should be respected.”
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court denied an effort by abortion rights group to stop a law in Texas that bans people from undergoing procedures after 6 weeks of gestation.
When Psaki was asked if the Supreme Court’s ruling shocked the White House, she said: “You can never predict rulings. We certainly know the make up of the court.”
Psaki was also asked if the president’s position on court packing has changed because of the ruling.
“He’s waiting for the conclusion of this report,” she replied.
The Texas law encourages people to sue anyone who helps an individual receive an abortion after a heartbeat is already detected.
The private citizen suing can be rewarded up to $10,000 from the abortion provider or others if they win their case.
