The manhunt for missing fugitive Brian Laundrie takes another major turn after human remains are discovered.
It has been more than a month since the 23-year-old Florida man went missing and since the authorities discovered that his fiancée, Gabby Petito, was murdered.
Following Laundrie’s disappearance, the authorities launched a massive manhunt for the person of interest who had also become a wanted man after the FBI had issued a warrant for his arrest in connection to the unauthorized use of a credit card that didn’t belong to him.
Now, the investigators made a shocking discovery as they came across what appears to be partial human remains in Florida’s Carlton reserve where they had been searching for potential evidence for weeks.
Along with the unidentified human remains found near Laundrie’s family home, the FBI also discovered some of the young man’s personal belongings including his backpack and notebook.
The grim discovery was made on Wednesday morning, just a day after the park infested with alligators was reopened to the public.
During the Wednesday search for clues, Chris and Roberta Laundrie, Brian’s parents, joined the investigators side by side as they searched through the swamp.
Within just several hours, the search teams reportedly came upon the human remains and Laundrie’s personal items.
While a pathologist told DailyMail.com that the FBI probably already knows whether the human remains belong to Brian Laundrie or not, official statements will have to wait until a thorough examination is complete.
“Dental is 99.9 percent immediately accurate. They know it’s him. But the cause of death might still take a while to determine. The cause of death has to be determined at autopsy, which probably won’t be performed till tomorrow or the next day,” Dr. Michael Baden explained.
Following the disturbing find, the Laundrie family’s attorney confirmed that the parents will not be making public comments until the body is identified.
