A heartless father has been accused of abducting his infant son and then tragically using him as a human shield during a police chase in Mississippi recently.
Local media reports confirmed how little La’Mello Parker was only four months old and he passed away after being brutally injured during his dad’s shootout with the cops.
30-year-old Eric Derrell Smith reportedly kidnapped his son on Monday. Moreover, police authorities went on to reveal how he first fatally killed his ex-girlfriend and her nephew by shooting them dead. And that’s when he was able to kidnap his young child near Louisiana, reported WALA.
Later, the accused was seen at Interstate 10, which is situated near the Louisiana-Mississippi state line. This ultimately resulted in a massive police chase-off, which ended up at Harrison County.
Throughout the process, the father shockingly used his biological son as a form of human shield to evade the bullets being fired at him by the police officers. This news was confirmed by a member of the law enforcement squad who reported it to the station.
After the shootout, Smith also died while his son was pronounced dead during the early hours of Tuesday.
Biloxi police mentioned how medical experts tried their level best to save the child who had been severely wounded in the shootout. Tragically, he just couldn’t pull through, as confirmed by the officers and investigators of the case.
Currently, the case is still under investigation regarding what the actual motive of Smith was during this entire ordeal. Meanwhile, the young boy’s autopsy was reportedly scheduled for Wednesday so as to determine the exact cause of his death.
Meanwhile, reporters from WALA mentioned how one police officer from Biloxi and another from Harrison County Sheriff’s department have been placed on administrative leave, following the tragic incident.
