A medical warning has been issued by doctors against women and men peeing in the shower.
While the act is one that many have been engaging in for years, a leading urogynecologist named Dr. Teresa Irwin had made a case that shows the adverse effect of engaging in the age-old habit that many consider harmless.
The doctor mentioned how the practice can have detrimental effects on your bladder in general. Similarly, this case also pointed out some interesting findings for women, including how they should be sitting down in a correct posture while peeing.
“The habit is bad for both men and women. But it’s very important for women to realize that they can’t get away with peeing in any position. They need to sit down in a correct manner as it really can have long term effects, if not done right”- she explained.
But many critics questioned why peeing in a stand-up position could affect people and that’s when the doctor and other specialists revealed how the act may be emptying your bladder. However, it is also training your brain at the same time to urinate, each time it sees water. And that is a habit that can be dangerous.
“Whether you are washing your hands, washing the dishes, or simply swimming”- the sight or sound of water will make you want to urinate and that can be really troublesome for some people who would find it hard to control their urge to pee.
Speaking to her 500,000 followers on TikTok, another pelvic floor specialist explained how the act of peeing against a running stream of water is just not correct as the association is simply wrong.
“You’re weakening your pelvic floor without realizing it and before you know it, you’re going to be suffering from some major leak issues. Nobody wants to deal with that”- she went on to add.
