Halyna Hutchins’ grieving husband Matthew has reportedly lawyered up and is preparing to file a lawsuit over his wife’s premature death.
Following two weeks after the tragic on-set shooting in which the 42-year-old mother, wife, and photography director had lost her life, Matthew Hutchins is “set to file wrongful death lawsuit.”
According to TMZ, the distressed husband has hired the Panish | Shea | Boyle | Ravipudi LLP law firm in preparation for the legal battle concerning the tragic shooting on the Rust movie set and his wife’s death.
Furthermore, sources have allegedly confirmed that the lawsuit will name several defendants, whereas Matthew and his 9-year-old son Andros will be listed as the plaintiffs.
As of this writing, it is not clear to us whether 63-year-old Alec Baldwin, the actor who accidentally shot Hutchins while rehearsing a scene after he was handed a gun containing a live bullet, will be named as a defendant in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit comes shortly after the embattled actor was spotted consoling and hugging Halyna’s husband and 9-year-old son.
In a recent turn of events, it has also come to light that Baldwin and the rest of the Rust crew violated several gun safety protocols before the incident.
“Refrain from pointing the firearm at anyone, including yourself. If it is absolutely necessary to do so on camera, consult the property master or other safety representative. Remember that any object at which you point a firearm could be destroyed,” one of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees’ rules reads.
It appears that Baldwin broke this golden rule after he was handed the gun and told that it was free of live rounds.
The guidance also warns that blank bullets may kill and that live ammunition should be banned from studio lot and stage.
“TREAT ALL FIREARMS AS THOUGH THEY ARE LOADED. ‘LIVE AMMUNITION’ IS NEVER TO BE USED NOR BROUGHT ONTO ANY STUDIO LOT OR STAGE,” one of the rules says.
As of this writing, it is not clear why the gun that was handed to Baldwin contained one live bullet.
The case remains under investigation.
