Crew members working alongside Alec Baldwin on the actor’s movie set for Rust allegedly expressed concerns over gun safety moments before the tragic shooting.
On Thursday, 42-year-old director of photography Halyna Hutchins was shot dead by the 68-year-old veteran actor after his prop gun misfired on set.
Now, Deadline has revealed that an unnamed source with knowledge of the situation claimed that a prop weapon already misfired in a cabin days before the accident that cost the cinematographer her life.
“A gun had two misfires in a closed cabin. They just fired loud pops – a person was just holding it in their hands and it went off,” the source claimed.
While Rust Production LLC has yet to comment about these allegations, union members representing the crew behind the western movie insisted that concerns about the on-set safety were brought up prior to the deadly shooting.
It has since also come to light that union members expressed dissatisfaction over poor working conditions and accommodation of the crew.
According to The Los Angeles Times, sources were complaining after producers failed to get them accommodation in Sante Fe and told them to return to Albuquerque because they refused to pay for their hotel rooms.
In one social media post, members of the union also alleged that the production suggested the crew could stay at a “garbage roadside motel that’s used as a homeless shelter” rather than paying $10 bucks more and getting them proper rooms.
It has also been alleged that the crew found out they were replaced by a fresh set of workers after returning to the set on Thursday morning.
