As the child’s mother revealed, her daughter had suffered a cut to her mouth after biting into one of the treats she got in the Panther Trace neighborhood on Halloween.

After inspecting the packaging and the chocolate bar that the 8-year-old tried to eat, the mom came across the blade of a precision knife commonly used in various types of craft.

According to the upset mom, who spoke out to warn other parents about potential dangers associated with trick-or-treating, the chocolate bar containing the blade was wrapped and sealed before her daughter opened it at her home.

“It is despicable that someone would tamper with a child’s Halloween candy for their own cruel enjoyment,” Hillsborough Police Department Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed after the incident.

“As we continue to investigate this incident, we are reminding all parents of the importance of checking over every piece of candy your child received while trick-or-treating before letting them eat it.

Though rare, incidents involving candy tampering are not entirely unheard of across the nation.

Just days ago, another similar story went viral after sewing needles were discovered in two pieces of candy that were given to the kids during trick-or-treating in Fostoria, Ohio.

“Although we only are aware of 2 pieces of candy being involved, we take this seriously and are appalled that anyone would be so demented as to want to hurt children in our community,” Fostoria Police Department Chief Keith Loreno said of the matter.
