A teenage girl was found dead in her bedroom by her devastated mother who just returned home with a takeout meal for her daughter.
An inquest heard how Alison Jones had jokingly shouted ‘waitress service’ when she went to Chantelle’s bedroom only to find her hanging.
In a heartbreaking statement read at the Ruthin hearing, Mrs. Jones said: “I know I will never get the answers I want as to why I lost the most precious thing in my life.”
“She was just a teenager getting on with her life and doing what all teenagers do,” she continued.
“We had a close relationship and she knew she could come to me and dad and talk about anything.”
The grieving mother told the coroner: “I just don’t think she meant to do it. I think it was a cry for help and she thought we would be there.”
Mrs. Jones said she received a text message from her daughter while she was waiting for takeaway food, saying a curtain pole had fallen.
John Gittins, senior coroner for North Wales East and Central, said: “We have a deliberate act with unforeseen consequences arising from it.”
“I just wish I knew what she had in her mind so you could have proper closure,” he told Chantelle’s heartbroken parents.
“It doesn’t seem enough to offer my condolences.”
“Everyone involved in this did all they possibly could. It’s very, very sad,” he added.
Tributes poured in for Chantelle, with hundreds attending a memorial for her.
Her school said in a statement: “Chantelle had such a lovely way of showing she cared, and this was evident to all, but especially those in her close friendship group.
“She had both spirit and character, and we all recognised her wonderful potential. No family or community should ever have to experience a loss of this kind.
“School does not feel right without Chantelle. We will all miss her.”
