The traveler who caught missing girl Gabby Petito’s abandoned van on camera has recalled the time she made the chilling discovery.
Jenn Bethune is a YouTuber who was exploring the Spread Creek Campground as part of her trip to the Grand Teton National Park.
Unknowingly, the vlogger managed to catch Petito’s van on camera in one of the clips taken after the 22-year-old already went missing.
It wasn’t until hearing the shocking news about Petito’s disappearance that Bethune realized she had caught part of crucial evidence on camera while exploring the national park.
“I got chills all over my body and ran straight back to my laptop, got my GoPro footage, and lo and behold Gabby’s van was on there,” the owner of ‘Red, White and Bethune’ said as she appeared on Fox & Friends.
“We’re from Florida and the van had Florida plates and we wanted to stop by and say hi. But the van was very dark, closed up, looked like no activity so we ended up continuing to drive.
“I am so sad that we couldn’t bring her back alive, but to be able to bring her back home to her family or to help with that is everything. It is so heartwarming that everything fell in place in order to make that happen.”
After discovering the chilling footage among her collections of videos from the park, Bethune immediately turned the clip over to the FBI to assist with their investigation.
Meanwhile, Petito’s family shared the footage on Facebook as they confirmed they believe the van in the video belonged to Gabby.
“We have this video, so does the FBI. We believe this is the van for multiple reasons,” they wrote.
As the missing girl’s mother, Nicole Schmidt, added, the footage served as “a very important piece of information as it pretty much starts the timeline.”
“This new video of the actual van being seen on the 27th appears legit. That was the last location the van might have been seen. It’s a huge piece of the puzzle,” she told MailOnline.
“It’s essential and there might be more videos out there that people haven’t even realized they have yet. If people were recording videos or just taking pictures, they need to start looking through their stuff.”
