At least 46 people were killed in a devastating blaze after a 13-story tower block caught fire.
The tragic incident takes place in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where a building used for both residential and commercial purposes caught fire at around 3 am on Thursday.
After the inferno had spread throughout the tall building, several floors were incinerated and dozens of people were killed or severely injured.
According to the local reports, the authorities rushed 14 people who displayed no signs of life to the hospital. Another 32 were taken straight to the morgue.
Meanwhile, at least 41 people who survived the incident were taken to the hospital after suffering injuries of some sort during the blaze.
While the official death toll has yet to be confirmed, it is believed that a total of at least 46 people lost their lives in the blaze.
In pictures and videos taken at the tragic scene, dozens of firefighters were seen battling the flames that engulfed the entire building. Meanwhile, clouds of smoke are seen rising from the building as the first responders attempt to suppress the blaze.
After the fire was put out, rescue teams began going through the building in search of survivors.
As of this writing, it is unclear what the cause of the fire was. It is clear, however, that the blaze was most intense in the bottom floors where the stores were located.
