A 39-year-old father who killed his 2-month-old daughter blamed his cat for causing fatal injuries, including broken ribs and bleeding on the brain.
Kristopher Henderson from Minnesota was charged with first-degree murder at Blue Earth County District Court.
His daughter, Adaline, was severely injured when she was found at their home in Mankato on September 23. Despite doctors’ best efforts to try and save her, she sadly passed away at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester on November 3.
Adaline’s mother Shelby Goodrich told police that her daughter was still fine before she went to work on the day the horrific injuries were inflicted. She said that she fed her and put her to sleep.
At around 5 pm, she received a text message from Henderson saying he had caught their 19lb cat ‘laying’ on top of their child.
Goodrich was shocked to see that her little girl’s eyes had ‘bulged out’ of her head so she rushed her daughter to the local emergency room.
Police arrived and Henderson initially claimed that he had no idea how his daughter was injured before he blamed their cat.
According to the Southern Minnesota News, Henderson admitted that on the day of his daughter’s death, he had “cradled the child in his arms and struck her back more forcefully than usual.”
Speaking to Daily Mail, Goodrich said of her daughter: “She was always a very happy baby. When she learned how to smile she would smile constantly and she was never fussy unless she wanted a bottle, diaper change or some cuddles.
“She and I would always have cuddle time from 9-11 every day when I was on maternity leave and my days off. I couldn’t stop looking at her or being by her side when I was able.”
“She was very observant, constantly trying to watch what things were going on around her. She was my world and now my world will forever be a darker place without her,” she continued.
“She was loved so much in the short time she was with us and will continue to be.”
