A grieving woman has shared her heartache after her husband tragically died as no ambulance arrived to take him to a hospital after he suffered a heart attack.
According to Sky News, the NHS in the UK is still under considerable strain. Devastating stories are emerging of people losing family members because of long waiting times for ambulances that otherwise could’ve been avoided if paramedics arrived right away.
Ann Clark has also opened up about her husband Martin who started experiencing chest pains on November 18.
The family called for an ambulance three times before they decided to drive to the hospital. But by the time they arrived at the East Sussex hospital, Martin already went into cardiac arrest and died at the age of 68.
He left behind his wife and their five children.
In an interview with BBC, Ann said that her husband told her: “I don’t think I’m going to make it. Love you.”
Ann also said her husband was a healthy and active man who did not drink or smoke.
The grieving wife questioned if the results would have been different if the ambulance arrived immediately.
“The NHS is broken. Everybody is scared if they get ill where can they turn? Something needs to change – there are going to be so many deaths because of this. It’s terrible.”
According to the figures for ambulance waiting times published by NHS England in December, there is an average of 90 minutes for ambulances to reach emergency calls. This is five times longer than the target time of 18 minutes.
The South East Ambulance Service apologized to the grieving family and said: “We are very sorry we were unable to provide a timely response to Mr. Clark. Our thoughts are with his family and we will look into this.
“We are working hard to respond to everyone who needs us as quickly as possible while our services remain under significant pressure.”
