Angry Mother Slams Parents Who ‘Damaged Toddler’s Body’ And Says Children Shouldn’t Experience ‘Unnecessary Pain’ From Ear Piercings

There are many stories about parents cutting ties with family members or friends who went behind their backs to get their children’s ears pierced.

Many parents want to get their pierced ears while their kids are still young so they won’t remember it while others want to make sure that their children really want to have it done before having their ears pierced.

One parent explained that her 6-year-old daughter has been asking for many months to get her ears pierced after her 5-year-old cousin got them done.

However, piercing salons in their area ‘don’t deal with customers under 14.’

So the parent took to Mumsnet and asked for advice about where to have her daughter’s ears pierced.

“My six-year-old has been asking for months for ear piercings (her cousin got them at five). I have talked to her about the importance of daily cleaning, that there is always a risk of infection etc and haven’t brought it up myself until she asks if I have made an appointment yet and when could I make one,” the poster wrote.

She said that she talked to local piercing salons and that the best way to do it is needle piercing but they don’t deal with customers under the age of 14.

“Does anyone know another better place perhaps?” the parent asked.

Other parents explained when they allowed their children to get their ears pierced while others tried to dissuade the mother and explained that 6 is still too young.

“My daughter was 10. She said it hurt a lot more than she expected (and she’s quite brave). They took a year to heal properly (to be able to leave earrings out and put them back in easily). I’d be worried a six-year-old may refuse the second ear if the first hurt a lot!” one wrote.

But one mother who also saw the post became livid and branded it ‘unnecessary pain.’

“Why would you inflict unnecessary pain on your child?”

Another parent commented: “Personally I’d say she could wait until she was 15 and then take the decision for herself. The thought of allowing a piercing on a small child makes me feel sick.”
